The Anecdotal Life Part. 86

I am not only two or three months behind, not only two weeks late according to the date in the first line, but I believe I used this line as an opener for last year's February blog. However, who cares? , my cardiologist says I am doing fine and that's what the delay was all about.

Therefore, I repeat, "In the ancient legends and myths, February first was the time for new beginnings" and we all sure could use it. I swear I could hear a click as the sun swung our way in a more steady and giving fashion. In the plant world, in some patches close to buildings or houses, one can see some silly few green sprouts shoving their way to the surface. They, I expect, are hoping, as we are, for their own personal , (even more green) Obama to save them from the surrounding storms. I , like some character in the Pogo series, wish we could just go back to " good old fashioned disasters", such as " THE DAM'S BUSTED!" or "THE JUTE MILL'S ON FIRE!" and everybody could just up and run for it or from it as they see fit.
Somehow these all seem more fixable. But the disasters we are encountering offer no running room. We are stuck with standing our ground and going eyeball to eyeball with them. How did we ever let such a flock of "cretinous criminals" B.S. their way to the top of soooo many companies. The word CEO currently stands for everything slimy, and totally self-aggrandizing. I think it scares us , not for all the obvious reasons, but that it reflects our society, elements , just particles hopefully, in us all. That's what really hurts. Easy phrases come to mind. " I deserve it." I need to be nice to myself." One phrase really rocked me backwards that I heard, " I got mine and they can just go get theirs." Well, I'll say this, a lot of us have stopped, probably of necessity, but we have stopped. I hear that we need to pump up consumer confidence again to restart the economy. The way I read that is we all need to go crazy spending again to support the banks, wall street and the few lowlifes at the top of certain companies that miss their perks. (hopefully, they are missing their perks) It seems, incredibly though, that the truth is, we will have to save their hides in order to save ours. I have now, more sympathy for the French revolution or people who stow their money under mattresses.... would that we had done so.
So the flowers will soon be up and that's pretty much it , isn't it? It is just that simple. The flowers bear out their singular responsibility year after year by suiting up and showing up, and we must do the same. So here's to a new beginning. For too many since we can remember, it's "Hi Ho , Hi Ho , back to work we go" and that may be whatever and wherever we can find it. Don't forget to write home if you've still got one.
